Layout and amenities

  • Casa Velha
    Ground floor: Living / dining room with TV, woodburning stove and well equipped open kitchen. Bathroom (shower). Bedroom with double bed and one single bed.
    Downstairs (can be reached either from the outside or through the house): Bedroom with double bed. Utility room with washing machine.
    Heating: Woodburning stove in the living room; electric heaters in the bedrooms and the bathroom.
  • Casa Branca
    Ground floor: Living / dining room with open fireplace. Well equipped open kitchenette. Bathroom (shower). Bedroom with twin beds.
    Heating: Open fireplace in the living room; electric heaters in the bedroom and the bathroom.
  • Amenities
    Private swimming pool, TV, cd/dvd-player, washing machine, microwave oven, cot (at request), toaster, barbecue.

House and surroundings

Quinta da Boucinha is a former farm, situated just outside the village of Gondarém. Most of the characteristics of the old farmhouse Casa Velha were restored: the thick granite walls with small windows and a wooden roof construction. Inside it is pleasantly cool in the summer and stays relatively warm in the winter. On the large veranda you can enjoy breakfast in the early morning sun, whereas in the afternoon you'll find a nice shaded place to sit.
The house has a large patio with a granite table and benches, with a beautiful view of the valley. Close by, on the edge of one of the olive groves, is the swimming pool. It has a shallow end and is therefore suitable for smaller children.

The grounds, almost 1.5 hectares, are still in their original state: many olive trees, walled meadows which slope down gently surrounded by high climbing vines. The neighbours sometimes put their cattle out to graze in the field. They harvest the grapes in October.

The nearest town is Cabeceiras de Basto (6 kms, all facilities). Nearby in Gondarém are a café and a small shop with groceries and daily fresh bread.
From the Quinta you walk almost straight into the Serra da Cabreira.

On the quinta is a second house, Casa Branca, which used to be a barn with a lagar (winery) in the basement. The ground floor is converted into an apartment for 2 people, which, for privacy reasons, can only be rented in combination with the Casa Velha. An ideal solution for two families on holiday together!
