Restored Village Farmhouse

Casa das Eiras is situated in the well preserved village of Carreira. The former farmhouse is restored to a comfortable cottage for four people. It borders a small common where in the old days sheep were gathered, ready to be put out to pasture in the mountains by the shepherd - in turn one of the owners. Surrounding the cottage is a large garden. At the front the former eira (threshing floor) forms a large terrace and at the other side is a patio with a stone table and benches and a barbecue. The vicinity is just as beautiful for walking as the nearby Serra da Cabreira. From the cottage you walk directly into the fields and mountains. The owner of Casa das Eiras has a piece of land (which is not inhabited) on the bank of a small reservoir in the valley. Guests are welcome to use it to swim or have a picnic. The nearest town is Póvoa de Lanhoso (12 kms, all facilities), with a lively centre and a large weekly market. Worth visiting are the 12th century castle and a restored castro (prehistoric settlement). In Sobradelo - 3 kms from the village - are a café and a small shop with groceries. The baker has his daily round in Carreira itself. |
