House and surroundingsCasa do Espigueiro is situated in a rural area in the valley of the Homem river, east of Vila Verde. Outside the summer season the property is sometimes used by the owner as a retreat from the hectic of city life. It is furnished in a classic style and offers everything for a comfortable stay.The veranda, which is accessible from the living room and two of the bedrooms, is one of the most pleasing places. Here you can enjoy the long summer evenings, and the view over the fields and hills. The kitchen is richly decorated, but nevertheless quite functional. A narrow staircase (lockable for children’s safety) leads down to the ground floor that stays nicely cool in the summer because of the thick granite walls. Around the house is a large, well kept garden with sunny as well as shady areas. If you wish you can laze away by the pool or do some healthy exercise on the tennis court or in the fitness room. The distance to the small town of Vila Verde is 6 km. There you will find all kinds of shops, a supermarket, cafés, pastelarias, restaurants, banks, a hospital and a large market every other week. Closer to the villa, at about 1.5 km, there is a small shop with groceries and fresh bread, and a local restaurant. The spa village of Caldelas is only 5 km away. The Termas offer relief from all sorts of ailments, and also several wellness arrangements. On the way you pass the Ponte de Rodas, a medieval bridge over the Rio Homem. Coucieiro is an excellent starting point for discovering the central part of the Minho province. The distance to the centre of Braga is 20 km, to Guimarães (Capital of Culture 2012) 45 km, to the picturesque town of Ponte de Lima with its Roman bridge 35 km, to the authentic graineries of Soajo in the Peneda-Gerês national park 35 km, to the Senhora da Peneda in the heart of the northern part of the park 57 km, and to the lake Caniçada with all kinds of water sports 35 km. |
