Charming, secluded mountain cottage near lake


Casa do Garrano got its name from the garranos, the beautiful half-wild horses roaming the Serra do Gerês and the Serra da Cabreira. The cottage was built some years ago by a family from Porto who wanted to enjoy the rural life. The comfort, the location, the entourage, all put together make this an ideal holiday accommodation.

The cottage is completely and tastfully furbished. At the back is a large patio with views on the nearby reservoir of Caniçada; a lovely place for a long summer evening. This patio can be closed off for small children. Through the sun lounge you get to the pool with adjoining sun deck at the front. The whole is surrounded by a lush garden that offers lots of privacy.

At the reservoir (about 700 hectares) are ample opportunities for water sports. You can hire canoes, jet ski’s, pedaloes or learn how to water ski.
The lake is also the southern border of the national park Peneda-Gerês. In the spa village of Caldas do Gerês is an information centre. They provide information on the flora and fauna of the park, archeological finds (among which the Roman road that once lead from the city of Braga to Rome), walking routes, etc.

In the village of Rio Caldo (6 km), at the “cross” of the reservoir, there are some shops, cafés and restaurants. More choice is to be found in Caldas do Gerês or Vieira do Minho (± 10 km). A baker passes the cottage each morning.

Ground floor: Living / dining room with open fireplace. Fully fitted half open kitchen. Sun lounge with woodburning stove. 2 Bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin). Shared bathroom. Patio.
First floor: 1 Double bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
Heating: Open fireplace in the living /dining room, woodburning stove in the sun lounge and electric heaters in the bedrooms.
Facilities: Private swimming pool, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, barbecue, cot (at request), microwave oven, espresso machine.

Particulars

  • Cleaning (once per week) is included.
  • The minimum stay is 5 days.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Although not especially adapted, reasonably suitable for non-electric wheel chairs. The ground floor, the patio at the back and the sun deck near the pool are all on the same level.
