Spectacular guesthouse at restored water mill


Living above a waterfall, this was the dream of the owner of Casa Moinho da Porta when he set out to design and build this stunning studio apartment. Here you can imagine you are far away from civilisation, and be at one with nature, the greenery, the gurgling water, the birds, and maybe at dusk a pair of otters.

The apartment is in total harmony with its environment. The contemporary looks and austere finish make it blend in perfectly with the landscape. However, in neither the construction, nor the fittings and furnishings has there been any concession to quality or comfort.
The studio provides accomodation for 2 people, with a spacious living-bedroom, a kitchenette and a separate bathroom. The large windows at the front and the balcony offer panoramic views at the stream.

The apartment stands on the spot of the former saw mill, with its back facing the house at about 15 metres. At the front, looking out over the waterfall, are the private entrance and patio.

The nearby village is Taíde, the nearest town is Póvoa de Lanhoso (7 kms, all facilities), with a lively centre and a large weekly market. Worth visiting are the 12th century castle, a restored castro (prehistoric settlement), and the Museu do Ouro (gold filigree). There is an excellent restaurant halfway Póvoa.
The city of Braga is 25 kms away, the national park Peneda-Gerês about 30 kms.

Layout and facilities (studio)

Ground floor: Large living-bedroom with double bed, balcony and kitchenette. Separate bathroom. Private entrance and patio.
Heating: Airconditioning (hot and cold).
Facilities: Satellite-TV, cd/dvd-player, cot (on demand).

Particulars

  • The minimum stay is 3 days (except the weekends in the low season); at Christmas and New Year 6 days.
  • Pool towels are provided.
  • Cleaning (two times a week) is included, as is a daily supply of fresh rolls.
  • Not suitable for little children as the stream runs alongside the house and the garden.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Not suitable for wheel chairs.
