House and surroundings

Casa Pala Luar is set in the wooded hills on the south side of the large Caniçada reservoir. Its distinguised modern architecture provides light and air inside, yet blends in well with the landscape. At the front of the house, which is surrounded by a well-tended garden, is the swimming pool with sun deck, offering lovely views on the lake and the mountains beyond. On the rest of the grounds, at one side bordered by a small stream, grow oak, chesnut and plane trees.

Casa Pala Luar consists of 2 houses, the main house with 3 bedrooms (sleeps 6), and a guest house with 2 bedrooms (sleeps 4). Depending on the size of your party you can rent only the main house or the whole of the accomodation. If only the main house, then the guest house will remain closed. It will not be let to others or used by the owner.

At the lake (about 700 hectares) are ample opportunities for watersports. You can hire canoes, jet ski’s, pedaloes or learn how to water ski.
The lake is also the southern border of the national park Peneda-Gerês. In the spa village of Caldas do Gerês is an information centre. They provide information on the flora and fauna of the park, archeological finds (among which the Roman road that once lead from the city of Braga to Rome), walking routes, etc.
The nearest access to the water is only a few hundred metres away.

The nearest small town is Vieira do Minho (9 km). There you will find all kinds of shops and 2 supermarkets, and also banks, cafés, restaurants, a health care centre and a large weekly market.
In the marina village of Rio Caldo (7 km), at the “cross” of the reservoir, there are also some shops, cafés and restaurants.
The distance to Braga is about 35 km.
