House and surroundings

Casa do Pastor (house of the shepherd) is a recently build cottage, situated on a large estate at walking distance of the village of Arco de Baúlhe. The house has an open plan reception/kitchen room, with a sitting corner around a woodstove, furnished in a traditional style. There are three modern bedrooms, all with on-suite shower room.
Next to the kitchen is a small covered terrace with a fixed barbecue and an old style bread oven. In the garden under some old cork oaks, you can find the garden set made of granite, which on a warm day offers shade for outside dining. The swimming pool, even though not very big, together with the pleasant garden, makes this an ideal holiday accommodation for 6 people. For those who like to swim some laps, there is also a public swimming pool at about 5 minutes walk of the cottage.
The garden around the cottage is fenced, as on the estate, which all belongs to the property, sometimes graze some sheep and donkeys.

In Arco de Baúlhe are several shops, pastelarias and restaurants. More choice is to be found in Cabeceiras de Basto (6 km), there is also a supermarket, a health care centre, and a large weekly market.

Not far from the village centre is the terminal of the former Tâmega narrow gauge railway line. It has been more than 20 years since the trains halted there, the station has been converted into a local museum with one of the last steam engines and several carriages on show. The track is transformed into a 40 km bicycle and foot path, a beautiful route along vineyards, old stations, woodland and bridges.
You can also enjoy nature and walk to your heart’s content in the Alvão nature park.

At walking distance from the village, there is a small stream which offers nice places to swim, and just a little further downstream, is a sunbathing field on the river bank and a bar with meals and drinks during the summer months.

The distance to the centre of Braga is about 60 km, to Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage) 40 km, and to the impressive national park Peneda-Gerês plus the lake Caniçada 45 km.
