House and surroundings
Discover Portugal’s traditional side! At Casa do Pomar you will get a taste of the atmosphere and entourage of a manor house in the classic style of the Minho.
The property has been owned by the same family since the 17th century. It is built in a U-shape around the courtyard, surrounded by gardens and vineyards.
A broad driveway brings you to the main gate with the coat of arms above it. Granite steps lead from the courtyard to a large veranda, which gives access to the living quarters. The interior is beautifully and traditionally decorated, and furnished with family antiques.
On the ground floor are the former stables and storage rooms, these are not in use during your stay.
At the back there is an attractive garden where walnut and orange trees grow, as well as some centuries old olive trees. Here is also the swimming pool with sun deck. In the shade stands a large stone table, a lovely place to eat or enjoy long summer evenings. Next to the garden there is an orchard.
The property offers total privacy since it is surrounded by 5 hectares of vineyards, where vinho verde is produced.
The nearest village is Porto d’Ave (1 km). There are a few shops and cafés, and worth seeing is the 18th century Santuário da Nossa Senhora.
The nearest town is Póvoa de Lanhoso (6 km, all facilities), with a lively centre and a large weekly market. Worth visiting are the 12th century castle, a restored castro (prehistoric settlement), and the Museu do Ouro (gold filigree). There is an adventure park called Diver Lanhoso at 8 km distance. Halfway Póvoa there is an excellent restaurant.
The city of Braga is 25 kms away, the national park Peneda-Gerês about 30 kms.
