Nice little farmhouse with beautiful views

Casa de Santa Isabel is named after the church that stands next to the grounds, a little outside the village of Espindo. For several decades the house had not been lived in, when the great-grandchildren of the last inhabitants realised that it could be a holiday cottage. Rightly so! They had it completely restored, layed out a patio and a garden, and the result is a perfect place for those who love nature, walking and peace and quiet. The cottage is fully furnished and offers ample room for 2 or 3 people. From the balcony and the bedroom you have a spectacular view over the valley with the reservoirs of Salamonde and Caniçada, and the Serra do Gerês beyond. Behind the house is a pleasant patio where you can enjoy the sun until late in the afternoon. Espindo is a well preserved old village on the foothills of the Serra da Cabreira. It is a fine starting point for beautiful walks along ancient roads into the fields and mountains, or to the four stone bridges across the nearby stream. The nearest larger village is Ruivães (2.5 kms), with several shops, cafés and a restaurant. The distance to Vieira do Minho on paved roads is about 25 kms. Across the dam at Salamonde lies the Peneda-Gerês National Park (8 kms). All kinds of watersports are to be found at the large reservoir of Caniçada (20 kms). There are canoes, pedaloes and motor boats for rent and you can also (learn to) waterski. |
