The village of Abadim, now part of the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto, was independent in the Middle Ages. It had its own council, justice administration and a jail in a tower that still stands today. In later years houses were built around the tower, one of which is the Casa da Torre, founded in the 18th century.
The country house has kept its authentic character, inside as well as outside. The grand dining room and the bedrooms are decorated with original and lovingly restored furniture. All windows have the original window seats still in place. In-between the house and the old tower is a spacious courtyard where you can enjoy your breakfast.
Opposite the house is the former eira (threshing floor), that can now be used as a patio. The road alongside the house is for local traffic only.
The nearest places where you can swim are the praia fluvial (river beach) of Ranha (3.5 km) en route to Cabeceiras, and of the Barragem de Oural (5 km) in the Serra da Cabreira.
In the village are some cafés and a shop where you can buy bread and groceries. The nearest restaurant is in Cabeceiras de Basto (5 km).
