House and surroundingsCasa de Uveiras is a recently built, comfortable villa, that sleeps 8 people. The house is very light and airy, and tastefully furnished. At the back are the attractive swimming pool and a sun deck, set in a lawn. Next to the garden there is a playing field with a badminton net and football goals.The property has all privacy, and offers spectacular views over the Cávado valley and the Serra do Gerês. The villa is situated on the edge of a hamlet with the same name, at the end of the paved road. From this point you can walk along a dirt road straight into the hills of São Mamede, up to the chapel at the top (700 m). The national park Peneda-Gerês is “just around the corner”, as is the large reservoir of Caniçada (over the dam 11 km), where you can rent canoes, jet ski’s, pedaloes and motor boats. The nearby village of Parada de Bouro (1.5 km) has some small shops and a café. More choice is to be found in Santa Maria do Bouro (about 6 km); there is also a weekly market and an excellent restaurant in the historic pousada. The nearest town is Póvoa de Lanhoso, with supermarkets, restaurants, banks, the post office and a small hospital. The distance to Guimarães (Capital of Culture 2012) and to the city of Braga is ± 30 km. |
